I am a first year middle school choir director who teaches at a high-need, high poverty, Title I school in North Carolina. The first day I walked into my new rehearsal space, I saw many chairs and desks. I was not aware that my student numbers would be so small in my ensembles. Combining my seventh and eighth grade choirs, I have thirty students. With all our diligent work, the choir may be even larger, surpassing sixty students next year, which would be the largest choral ensemble in many years!
