I currently have 24 second graders that come ready to learn each day. The majority of the students spend their day at school. They arrive as early as 7:00 am and leave as late as 6:00 pm. while parents are working in the nearby industrial area. All my students are English Language Learners and all qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students attend a wonderful project based school that promotes them to learn by asking questions and to think critically. Our instructional program uses their primary language as the building block for literacy, while building English Language skills and conceptual understanding in the content areas of mathematics, science, social studies and the arts. We follow a balanced literacy approach and phonics is an important part of our program.
