My first grade students are from a variety of backgrounds. Sixty-seven percent of my students live in high poverty areas, about 33 percent of them are English language learners from Somalia, Nepal and Bhutan and 16 percent are special education students. Our school is a pre-school through grade 5 Vermont school which is considered a "failing school" according to NCLB. We are one of only two Magnet schools in the state. We became a magnet school to try to attract middle class families to offset the previous 97 percent poverty rate of our school. Our mission is to educate and empower students to improve the quality of life for all -economically, socially, and environmentally - now and for future generations. These students are incredibly energetic, creative and highly motivated by Science and technology. Having a color printer in our classroom will motivate and inspire our students to achieve to higher levels.
