Our school has a tiered classroom system. Tier 1 is students that don't struggle, Tier 2 has Title 1 students mixed in, and Tier 3 includes all special education students mixed in with regular education students. I teach in a fourth grade Tier 3 classroom. I have 8 students out of 19 that are on Individualized Educational Plans. I also have 3 other students that are English Language Learners. Because I teach in the Tier 3 classroom, I have students whose reading levels range from kindergarten (levels C and D) up to sixth grade. Many of my students' life experiences are very limited due to economic situations in their families. Because of the range of abilities and background knowledge of my students, it is difficult to provide materials that span such a wide range of ability levels. The students in my classroom are wonderful, kind children that have a desire to soak up all the knowledge that they can. My goal is to inspire them to grow and be the best that they can be.
