My students are in LOVE with Reading and work with me in my gifted and talented class. They have a deep enthusiasm and excitement for learning. They are especially obsessed with reading and writing. They want to share this enthusiasm with the younger students in our school whose families cannot afford to buy books for their children. Our school is a wonderful school where the parents deeply care about the success of their children. It is a quiet community. It is also a community where many of our families do not have the extra funds to buy books for their children. My students like to try to help with this problem by donating their own books as much as possible.
These picture books from Amazon are all brand new books and Caldecott contenders. My students want to do mock Caldecott activities with the younger students. They then want to help them learn to "appreciate and adopt" the books to keep for themselves. It is a wonderful thing to behold.
