My students live in a high poverty town where they deal with drugs, violence, and everyday home life hardships. But in spite of all that they still come to school with great attitudes and the eagerness to learn new things and experiment with new, fun activities in the classroom. Their school, unfortunately, can not supply them with the basic supplies needed to complete everyday activities. Students must ask their parents to provide many of their supplies, however many families just cannot afford these items for their child. We as teachers do the best we can in trying to provide those students less fortunate with the supplies that are needed such as paper, a pencil, or a binder. However many times that can take a toll on our own pocketbook and we have families to support as well. I feel that my students deserve nothing but the best education and opportunity to succeed in the classroom.
