My students are public school students who excel academically. They have to achieve a 93 overall average to be invited to the National Beta Club. Our club motto reflects service through leadership. That is exactly what each of these students strive to do. These students work hard in the classroom, compete at the state level in art and academic competitions, and sponsor service projects like raising money for various national, state, and community events. Since we live in a rural, high poverty area of the state, they simply are not able to participate in some activities. For example, not all of them can afford the $75 to $100 to attend the state convention. They surely cannot afford the $499 cost to attend the National Convention this summer. We, my co-sponsor and parents, do everything we can to help them raise the money necessary to compete with other students around the state and nation.
