Our students are fourth graders in a center city Philadelphia public school. Our students are actively engaged in a model of the Reader's Workshop program in which we teach mini lessons on reading skills and strategies based on literature we read as a class. Students read their own literature from our classroom library independently and write to the peers about the literature they read. we are attempting to expose them to other genres and have our Reader's Workshop become more cooperative through the implementation of literature circles.
