Many of my students come from single family homes in one of the lowest per capita income areas in Memphis, TN region. The majority of their parents are single and make extremely below-poverty incomes. The school is 100% Title 1 with 100% of the students receiving free lunch. This is our first year organizing a student council at our school, as well our first year participating in the Tennessee Student Council. The students are extremely excited about being a part of such an organization. With is being our first year, we don't have the funds to cover room and board during this event. Many of my students' parents are not able to help pay for this portion of the trip. My students really want to attend this event and I really want them to experience such an honorable event. They have worked extremely hard representing there school in this capacity.
