The end of my first year of teaching left me excited about what we had accomplished as a team. After spending some time in reflection, I thought about the major accomplishments and pitfalls that occurred throughout those nine months for both my students and myself. That reflection led me to one very important conclusion: my students are capable of achieving anything if the expectations are set at a high standard. Last year, my students made history by becoming the youngest students in our district's history to pass Algebra 1. They took the same final that high school students took and they not only passed the test, but they outperformed most high school students. Before last year, 8 students had passed Algebra 1 from our school. Last year, 99 students passed, including 72 of my 7th graders, the first time that 7th graders passed the rigorous end of year test. In addition, we became the 4th middle school in our area this year to offer Geometry to 8th graders because of their work.
