I teach 7th grade reading and writing at a Philadelphia charter school. The school was a Philadelphia School District middle school last year, but was converted to a charter school due to consistently low test scores and a violent school atmosphere. I have 28 7th grade students, all who have a 5th grade reading level. They're behind academically, but not so far that they can't catch up.
