My classroom is like a bee hive where twenty busy bees are learning how to read. Some are having a smoother experience than others, but all working together to blend each sound and read a word fluently. I teach first grade in a high-need community where academic resources are limited in the student's households and school is a positive outlook for every family. Our families come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and 65% of our student population are classified as English Language Learners.
