We are a Title-One school located in Georgia. I realize that most of our students don't have books at home. My students enjoy reading a variety of books (fiction, nonfiction, folktales, and historical figures. They like to respond to books orally and with written expression. We encourage our students to read with their parents and family members. Each student in my class has pledge to read and respond to 100 books or more this school year.
My students enjoy going to Reading Celebrations each nine weeks for reaching their reading goals. They also like to do author studies and study the author's craft and style. The students can identify the author's craft and record it on a noticing chart.
