Currently, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, schools in Hawaii are making plans to reopen in early August. At our school, parents are now faced with the tough decision as to whether they will opt for the blended model (face-to-face learning and technology-based learning) or strictly on-line learning for their child(ren). For those parents who opt to send their child(ren) to school, we are doing everything we can to assure their child's safety while at school.
As a grade level, we will be requiring students to wear a face covering--mask or shield--while in the classroom. Unfortunately, face masks can be hot and uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time--and if students wear glasses, face masks can cause them to fog up. Face shields, on the other hand, are a great alternative--they can prevent droplets from getting onto your face, they keep you from touching your face, they do not get as hot as face masks, and more importantly, it feels easier to breathe, and hence, more comfortable.
Thus, we would like to be able to provide face shields for our 2nd grade students as they not only provide safety and protection, but they are more comfortable to wear while in the classroom and conducive to learning. Mahalo!
