My students are in the Accelerated English program in the 9th and 10th grades at a comprehensive high school in California. We have asked for the furniture we need, but there is no money in the budget. My students are motivated self-starters who enjoy reading and learning; one thing I teach them is to always respect their literature, but teaching this can be a challenge when we cannot even afford to put our books into a nice bookshelf at the end of the day. Storing books on the floor gives the impression that we do not respect them or their contents; I want to teach my students to respect their books and to respect what they have to offer. My students need 3 bookshelves to hold their class textbooks.
