My school has been designated as a Title I School, and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
The student population at Sequoyah is very diverse with seven ethnicities included in its student body. Students are allowed to choose band as one of their connections classes, and a large number of them have selected band.
The school does have some instruments but not enough so that each student has his/her own instrument. Sharing instruments becomes difficult for performances and also for classes because students can't take their instrument home to practice between classes.
The majority of my students are committed to building a superior band program, and have made a commitment to attend band practice after school. Due to having to share instruments, students will not be able to practice together, but will have to attend on different days to accomodate the amount of instruments and students.
