My fifth grade students have a love for learning that is apparent every morning as they walk through the door. They are eager to know what they will learn for the day. My students have a big heart, but come from lower socioeconomic families. Many of them are first generation students with parents who have recently arrived from Mexico. They come from hard working families who sometimes work two or three jobs to be able to put food on the table. My students don't know that they are at a disadvantage compared to other children in other parts of the city. My school is a Title 1 school. This classification is given to schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families. The school has limited resources available to purchase technology for use in individual classrooms.
