My students face several challenges in their daily lives. Many of them do not know where their next meal is coming from, let alone know where they will be sleeping that night. I have students who are homeless, students who live in motels, and students who must worry about whether or not their family will be evicted from their apartment at the end of the month. Before our school day even begins, all students are served a free breakfast. Nearly all of my students also receive free or reduced lunch, and I provide them with a snack in the afternoon. Despite all of the obstacles my students face, they are emerged in their reading and long to become lifelong readers.
