Flexible seating is not just having different furniture in the classroom...it is about setting up environments where kids WANT to work with others, and allows them to focus on their own. By providing different seating options I will teach my students to become the leaders in their own learning. Some children need hard surfaces to work and sit on, but research has shown children need to be able to move often and even have a change of pace, rather than doing the same thing, day after day. The same thing stands for seating options in the classroom! Each of my children has a unique mind and children have different experiences and needs. My children need the flexibility to be creative and engaged. Sometimes a child need to move or rock to remain focused and engaged. I have picked yoga balls, zero gravity chairs and floor seats to keep them focused and engaged in their learning.
