I teach at a Title 1 elementary school (K-5) right outside of Chicago's inner city. Most students that I teach are African American or Latino. My students are energetic, charismatic, and delightful. Many of the students I teach abide in a single parent household with a high school level education. Food, clothing and a roof over their heads are first priority and in some cases these needs aren't met. So when it comes to academics, learning and school it's up to me to motivate and inspire them through education because as they look at their surrounding environment filled with gang violence, foreclosures and countless disappointment their future looks quite dim. I would like to inspire my students through education and help them explore the opportunity that it holds.
