These children are from a city school that three years ago was going to be shut down by the city for being one of the most violent and lowest performing schools. Our charter school took over to turn it around and now three years later the school has been transformed.
These kindergarteners come in to build their educational foundation with enthusiasm, hard work, and joy. They deserve the best educational experience just as much as anybody else. When they come in, most have not attended any kind of preschool or nursery school. Because of their lack of exposure to school, they don't have any prior knowledge of the alphabet letters and sounds. However, already after two months, most are beginning to read three letter words and count numbers. It is incredible how much they soak in.
