I teach in an older school, with older furniture. We don't have any extra chairs for students to use and many of the chairs we do have are broken. I don't have enough student chairs to use at student desk, "teaching tables" and centers. I'm requesting twenty-five soft plastic traditional chairs.
Bright, new furniture also helps make the classroom a warm and welcoming place to learn. Our school is older and much of the furniture in our classroom is nearing the end of its lifespan. I believe that our surroundings have a big impact on our attitudes and believe that the presence of new, functional (and brightly-colored) furniture helps send a message to students that they are worthy of high quality things.
