My students are inner city public school students who range in age from kindergarten to grade 2. They are students who have had difficulty learning in a typical classroom, and yet when placed in a classroom with a smaller class number, and often an assistant teacher and classmates who have faced some of the same struggles, they thrive.
For many of my students it is the first time that they have been in a setting where they can be comfortable and be themselves. The pace of my classroom is slower than the a typical classroom, so my students can learn at their own pace. I maintain high expectations, based individually on each student, and I have high behavior expectations of my students. All too often the classroom furniture is old, mismatched, warped and uneven, and all around not well functioning. I painted my classroom, which was a project that cost me more than $200 and many hours of my time. I put in long hours each day at work and know the addition of this table and four chairs would be great.
