My classroom is composed of students from many different cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. It is crucial that my students see themselves represented in the books in our classroom library, and feel that their home languages are valued and celebrated.
In order to support my students in learning to read, write, and speak in Spanish, I need to have a wide variety of authentic texts for them to choose from--not just in Spanish but in their home languages as well. We will use these books during independent reading, shared reading, and class read alouds. Students can also use these books as a visual reference when they don't know the word for something in Spanish.
