Providing my students with hands-on manipulatives will allow them to collect real world data, which can be used for research and statistical analysis while making predictions and learning basic statistics. Our high school is located in a rural community and has 1050 students, with over half of our school population receiving free or reduced price lunch. The students who will be served range from 10th to 12th grade and are in an advanced level statistics course. They need to be challenged to make mathematics connections beyond the basic level. Students in this school setting are well behaved, but it becomes a constant struggle to keep them fully engaged. Statistical manipulatives will give them the opportunity to become involved in and connected to the math they are learning.
