Unfortunately, my students ONLY have an anthology provided by our school district to support their language arts instruction. I would like to take this learning a step further and provide each student with their own copy of a core literature selection that will help them develop a LOVE for reading.
I just began a new school year with a class of 32 fourth grade students who come from a challenging socio-economic background in Southern California. In addition, my students are learning to acquire English as a second language while still being accountable to grade level standards. What better way to develop their love of reading than guiding them through the discovery of the world of award winning literature? In the process, my students will be able to connect with the language of the book that will spark an emotional connection to reading. Meanwhile, increasing their reading comprehension. Win-Win!!
