In my 2nd grade classroom, we spend the days reading, talking about reading, writing about reading, and developing the skills needed to read. In a rural, close knit community in Eastern Washington, I work so hard to get all of the kids to develop a love for reading by providing them with materials and tools to support their various needs.
The students in my class come from difficult home lives and low socioeconomic backgrounds. For some, school is where they eat; feel supported, loved, and cared for; and experience success.
My students are hard workers and know that school is tough and that I have high expectations. They also know that it's tough and I have high expectations because I believe in them and know they can do it.
