I teach 30 5th graders. About 26 of them are low-income, many come from Spanish speaking homes and a large number of them are migrant students. My students are creative and excited about learning, they just do not have the resources to be successful. My school is great. We have just adopted a performance-based education model which will help students become more vested in their own learning, since they will not move on in their academics until they can show mastery in each previous learning standard. This is another reason we need quality resources that interest the students.
