While the first two items listed do not directly relate to the Nevada Academic Content Standards, seat sacks are an integral need in this COVID-19-related learning environment. Since students are not permitted to share any materials, they must have a way to keep all of their own materials to themselves. My classroom utilizes tables rather than desks so seat sacks would allow them to do this by keeping many essential things close by.
As we know, to build a foundation for college and career readiness, students must read widely and deeply from among a broad range of high-quality texts. So for the books I am requesting, there are numerous standards I could list that the books would be hitting but I will begin with RF.2.4. - Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Other standards that will be met by my students reading these books include RI.2.6, RI.2.7, RL.2.1, L.2.3.
Finally, I would like all of my students to have their own leveled book box to which they can go and read from during reading center or when work is completed. This is the reason I have requested the book bins. Again, having their own box to read from will address the COVID-19 issue and allow my students to read in a more healthy environment.
