Attending a brand new school in Brooklyn, NY has been an eye opening experience for students and teachers. After working hard to create a community that welcomes many different populations (special education, general education, and autistic students) my students look for the smaller pleasures in life, such as reading. Last year, I began instituting weekly reading time, so my students would become more literate. We read everything from Dr. Seuss, to Roald Dahl short stories, and William Faulkner very short stories. This year we are all looking forward to taking on more substantial works, beginning with these books!
