Our district's students come from very diverse backgrounds. We have a significant homeless population and some of our students live in shelters, moving from place to place throughout the school year. With the extreme challenges that brings in itself, it also carries educational challenges, such as the lack of exposure to quality literature. One thing our students don't lack is the desire to learn, to read, and to be read to. Whenever I take out a book to read, my students' faces light up and they look forward to the special place the book will take them. Our school's goal is to foster that love of reading and help our students grow to become insightful lifelong readers.
