My first grade class is a mix of native Spanish and English speakers and are eager to learn more about each others language and culture. The school is located in a poor and difficult neighborhood in the Mission. The school is an immersion school, in which students spend half the day speaking and learning in English and the other half in Spanish. The school is so small that is often overlooked by the larger schools yet still faces daunting challenges such has a lack of resources and staff. Despite these challenges, my students come to school with smiles wanting to learn.
