My students are from low income families. Many of these families do not speak our native language of English, however, their children will be required to read, speak, learn, and even test in English. My students are excited about reading, but many of them are not on their grade level because they speak other languages. The books that they are capable of reading and understanding, they are excited to share and discuss with each other. My students often do not have the same advantages that I had growing up, and now they have found themselves in a much more diverse world. These students are very enthusiastic about learning and moving into the future as productive citizens in our diverse communities.
