It seems obvious typing this, but 8 and 9 year olds do not want to sit in a hard chair in class all day. My students like to stand at their desks, lie on the carpet, or sit with a clipboard to do their work. I find that when students are given ownership over their seating choices, it helps with attention and engagement. I also see improved behaviors from students who have choice in their seating and are able to wiggle more.
Students are empowered to do their best when they are given choice. All of the supplies that I am requesting will give students choice in their classroom seating. They will be allowed to continue to wiggle while learning without distracting others.
