My classroom is a preschool in a public elementary school. Of my current 33 students, 80% special needs and are there with IEPs. The other 20% are neighborhood children that are there to be role models for my students with disabilities. The students range in age from 3 to 5 years old. The disabilities range from speech and language to students who are in wheelchairs, non-verbal, developmentally delayed, and on the autism spectrum. The challenges my students face are as unique as they are. Most of my students are from a white middle class area where ethnic diversity is not as common as other areas of our city.
