About my class
The children will collect weather data using the weather labs I have selected. They will then create models of tornadoes, rain, wind, and clouds. The children will use cloud identification charts to learn the types of clouds and the weather associated with that type of cloud. Weather safety will be discussed too. The children will create many activities using the weather data they collect from their weather labs. They will create charts, write non-fiction and fiction pieces, ask and write (and draw) weather questions, measure, write and understand simple fractions and more importantly learn skills not planned for when various situations occur when collecting, interpreting and sharing the data. Children will create models of clouds using cotton, pillow batting, shaving cream and a leaf blower. The children will feel ownership of the weather data when they collect the data themselves instead of viewing the data on line. Technology WILL be used in the unit but second graders will be more engaged and learn cooperation, question skills, math skills and a great deal more when collecting the weather data first hand.
