Children come into my classroom at all ability levels. Not all children succeed in a traditional classroom setting. This year I am implementing flexible seating. Students will be able to choose a spot in the room where they feel they will learn best. It allows students to be more reflective about their learning. With flexible seating, I would still like a space in my room where the class can get together, discuss day-to-day issues, and build a family community. I love being able to get to know each one of their little personalities, and I really think a meeting place in my classroom, such as a rug, will be the perfect place to do this. We will also use the rug to have whole group, direct instruction lessons, in all subjects.
