My school is located in a low income area and 75% of the student population qualify for free or reduced school lunch. Many of the students do not get extra help at home due to single family homes, language barriers, or parents working multiple jobs.
With that being said, my students have a heart of gold and everyday they put their best foot forward; however, they are all reading at least 2-3 grade levels below where they should be. Our school doesn't have the funds to update the reader's library they need, so they are stuck reading books with titles like 'My First Day In First Grade" or "My First Loose Tooth." Would you like to read these books in 5th and 6th grade?
