My students are mostly from socio-economically challenged families and theatre is a safe heaven from the challenges they face in their neighborhoods and home life. My students are dedicated to the theatre department and for many, it is their second home. They spend numerous hours after school each week for play rehearsals, to build sets, make costumes and for performances and events. My students must be in good academic standing in order to participate in the theatre so they are expected to be successful in their classes. My students are the kind of students that teachers want to teach. They are the students that can change the dynamic of a class and they are natural leaders. Without these students our theatre department couldn't exist.
