My students attend a large, urban middle school in California and come from diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds. All of my students have one thing in common: an identified disability that affects his/her access to education. My students have been diagnosed with a range of challenges that affect their learning including; Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Downs Syndrome, Speech and/or Hearing Impairment, Anxiety, Emotional Disorder, etc. My students have incredible character. They challenge me to become a better teacher every day. They inspire me to work harder to meet their needs. They make me laugh, cry, and cringe at times, but at the end of the day, they are all deserving of a better education. I work endlessly to provide each student with accommodations and modifications to general education curriculum offered to "typical" students at our school. Most importantly, I build strong relationships with my students and their families and act as their advocate in my school and community.
