It is September 16th. I have known my students for only two weeks, and already they have demonstrated their uniqueness and strength. As a group they are warm, humorous, questioning, and eager to learn. Most of all, they are deserving of a curriculum tailored to fit their strengths and needs, one capable of stoking the fire of interest that each of them carries.
The wonderful and glorious thing about a self-contained class of Special Education students, one with less than half the number of students in a General Education classroom, is the intimate and inclusive learning environment. I am privileged to spend more one-on-one time with students. We engage in circle discussions like knights at the round table, we read round-robin style, and, because there are fewer students, the presence of each one is that much greater.
