I teach at a large urban public high school. Most of my students are recent immigrants from Central and South America. They work incredibly hard to learn English and Science at the same time. I consider myself lucky to be their teacher and to help them not only learn science but also learn about all of the many educational and career opportunities they have in this country.
Like most urban schools, my school is under-resourced and we constantly scramble for supplies, even basics like paper. I want the best for my students and it is hard when I feel like they are being shortchanged because of a lack of supplies.
