My students attend a Title I school in Nevada where more than 60% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The advanced placement students have fought to be in my class and have taken exams to be placement ready. Passing the AP English Exam equates to saving upwards of $500 dollars in college tuition. It is important to them to be as prepared as possible for the exam in April/May. However, the school's text resources does not allow students access to the texts that would give them the best examples of language, specifically diction and syntax. My students are 12th graders and they have made it through four years of high school, but they are not yet college ready. I want to offer them the experience of reading on their own and annotating a text that they can keep forever.
