My students are at both a Title I school in California as well as a Distinguished School of California. Our school has a diverse community with different cultures and languages represented. Many students are learning English as a second language. Many students also qualify for free and reduced lunch. My Kindergarten students are breaking through barriers every day. They love to learn and it shows. They work very hard to learn standard based instruction. Families try to support their child's learning as much as possible. There are homework helper nights, math nights and reading nights that help involve the family in the school community. At our school we are trying to create a life long learner. Although I am the teacher, I always remind the parents that they are their child's first teacher. We are trying to find ways to extend the learning day to prepare our students for First grade. I am looking forward to seeing the academic and social growth in my students this year.
