My students are ruled as intellectually gifted and talented 4th and 5th graders. They come from 4 elementary schools to this central location for their day each week in the G/T classroom (IDEAS). Our region of Mississippi is considered to be a lower socio-economic area, with many single parent and English as a Second Language families. The G/T classes are kept small in order to individualize instruction based on the needs of the students. They are expected to work at a higher level of understanding than in a regular education classroom. It can sometimes be a challenge to keep the students involved and on task since they are always required to go beyond the norm. Several of my students are "twice-gifted",diagnosed as ADD, as well. We all have trouble sitting for long periods of time, and I change the manner of instruction and grouping several times during the day, but there are times when the students must concentrate at their tables as they are working on learning units and products.
