My students love to read and to hear stories read to them. I teach at a Title I school and some of our students have not had the opportunity to hear a story read to them on a regular basis. They are missing the opportunity to listen to a story, become engaged, and turn the pages themselves. I teach kindergarten and have students with varying levels of background knowledge as well as different interests. The key to keeping them engaged and learning is to provide them with differentiated materials based on their interests, readiness, and learning styles. My students are beginning the Daily 5 reading block framework this year and are excited to begin the "Listen to Reading" component.
