Today's children spend a lot of their free time inside on computers and other electronics. With childhood obesity on the rise, schools play a vital role in teaching students about practices that support healthy behaviors.
We provide opportunities for students to learn about healthy eating, but physical activity is a behavior that our children need to learn about as well. However, it is difficult to have an effective follow through when we do not have adequate playground equipment for active engagement on the playground. Having equipment like jump ropes, hoola hoops, frisbees and balls, would provide tangible resources for outside enjoyment. Right now I can only imagine seeing my students participate in organized outside activities. However, that vision could become a reality if our project is funded. My students would have the outdoor equipment they need to be encouraged to participate in physical activities.
