I teach Kindergarten at a Title 1 school in a high poverty area in Florida. Our school is 100% free lunch. I have a wonderful, intelligent class. Our classroom has 3 computers on makeshift tables with table legs blocking the center. One of my students is in a wheelchair and the tables pose a problem with her access. Our Reading, Math, and Writing programs have a wealth of digital learning opportunities that I would love to access in whole/small group and centers. My students beg for computer time but I have 21 students and only 3 computers. Sadly, most of my students do not have access to a computer at home. In this day and age, all students need to be using technology regularly (if not daily). I feel sad that I cannot provide them with sufficient access. I hope to save and buy a set of 5 tablets to use in small group with them. At this time I do not own a personal tablet, or I would use it in the classroom. I spend my money on supplies, centers, snacks, jackets, etc.
