My students live in a small town in North Carolina and the majority come from families that are economically challenged. They love coming to school and they work hard but they are lacking many of the advantages that might be available in other areas. They often don't utilize the library or have any significant books at home and as such they love being introduced to new literature at school. Since global awareness has been introduced into the curriculum they have been amazed at the vast world outside of North Carolina.
