Have you ever reached into a crowded, disorderly box and tried to untangle a particular item that you are looking for? Can you imagine 25 little pairs of hands all reaching into the box at the same time? Effective instruction requires that learning materials be organized for the students to easily access them. My students need an orderly and efficient area to organize the mallets used for Orff instruments.
I teach elementary children in a public school in Kindergarten through the fifth grade. I serve the regular education students as well as the special education students. Using the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education, utilizing speech, singing, movement and instrument playing gives every child an opportunity to create music of their own. Daily activities include playing barred instruments, including xylophones and glockenspiels, which require the use of two mallets.
